Director, Clinical Nursing (5/97 - Present)
Responsible to the Vice President of Patient Care Services for the management of 225 FTE's and an annual operating budget of $10.4M at this 500-bed tertiary care facility. Directly responsible for the nursing care delivered to patients in two 10-bed Intensive Care Units, an 18-bed Cardiac Monitoring Unit and five 40-bed Medical/Surgical Units. Accountable for facilitative leadership, strategic planning and team building for a management team composed of seven Nurse Managers and four Clinical Nurse Specialists.

Selected Accomplishments:

• Converted 28 of 42 Medical/Surgical/Cardiovascular beds to telemetry beds which resulted in better utilization of critical care beds, more timely and appropriate disposition of patients from the ER, a reduction of patient transfers between units and a decreased length of stay for open heart patients.
• Initiated a sustained change in skill mix on five units resulting in exceeding national bench marks on resource management.
• Serve as a preceptor to graduate nursing students from Emory University, Georgia University and Merion College.
• Facilitated implementation of Case Management on the Ortho/Neuro Unit and quantified findings which demonstrated: a decreased length of stay, improved documentation of patient/family education, enhanced collaboration with all disciplines and increased patient and nurse satisfaction.
• Implemented a Professional Practice Model on four units.
• Established a 30-bed Oncology specialty unit affiliated with the Miller Cancer Center.
• Created a satellite pharmacy that resulted in facilitating patient care and the development of a strong clinical relationship between nursing and pharmacy.
• Created a supportive and nurturing environment for staff and managers with a strong emphasis on teamwork, advanced education, continual growth and development and implementation of various components of shared governance.
• Participated in the redesign/renovation plans for the Medical/Surgical Units in preparation for submission of a Certificate of Need.

Director, Surgical Services (6/95 - 5/97)
Responsible to the Administrator for Clinical Services for the management of 250 FTE's and a $16.5M operating budget. Areas of responsibility included a 10-room OR, 16-bay PACU and 3-room Endoscopy suite with 12 CRNA's, 3 Nurse Managers and an Educator.

Selected Accomplishments:

• Participated in design/renovations of the OR and PACU in existing space.
• Designed and implemented a modified block scheduling system in the OR to encourage and recognize surgeons for high utilization of OR time.
• Redesigned the G.I. Lab admission process, which resulted in increased efficiency, decreased paperwork and increased comfort for patients post procedure.
• Directed a management development program for all nurse managers.

Responsible to the Director of Patient Care Services for the operation of a 16-bed CT-ICU with 68 FTE and a $12.8M operating budget at this 460-bed community teaching hospital.

Selected Accomplishments:

• Developed a Rapid Recovery Program that resulted in decreasing the patient's length of time on the ventilator and reduced length of stay.
• Implemented Shared Governance which facilitated staff autonomy in practice and decision making and improved staff satisfaction and retention.
• Implemented a well-defined mentoring program to support new staff and ensure growth of all staff.
